"Running The Race"

"Running The Race"

1 Corinthians 9:24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. Running is something I used to do a lot of when i was in the Army. In fact I was once on a brigade long distance running team and we ran in the 1982 Tulsa Mini Marathon. I enjoyed running because it kept me in shape physically. What I want to get across here is also about running and I want to encourage you just as the Apostle paul was trying to encourage the Corinthians in this scripture about running the race because there is a prize to obtain.

In races where people run there is only one winner but in the race that is set before us we all can win if we run with patience, which could be translated as endurance. When I ran in the Army it helped me to build up an endurance. I was able to run a long time. We as Christians have a race set before us that we need to run in and we ned to lay aside everything that would hinder us from getting to the finsih line, and those things would be sin.

Sin will hold us back from finishing the race because they weigh us down, and it will casue us to be tired and worn out. This race in life should be focused on doing God's will which is His Word and run it with all diligence and we need to keep our eyes on Jesus because in this race all who finsih and keep the course that God laid out before us will be winners.

To finish this race you must remain faithful to God in all things and be a doer of the Word and not a hearer only. Are you running the race that is set before us?

Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
